Encana top Canadian firm on Global 100, ranked 12th overall

Encana was the top Canadian firm on Corporate Knights Magazine's Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World list, released January 29 in Davos, Switzerland.

Based on the company's 2010 performance, Encana was number 12 on the global list and the second-highest ranked energy company. The list includes companies from 22 countries encompassing all economic sectors, with collective annual sales in excess of $3 trillion and five million employees.

The result also represents a rise from last year's 25th-place ranking.

“Being the top-placed Canadian company on the Global 100 represents significant third-party acknowledgement of our commitment to conducting our business responsibly,” says Bob Grant, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development, EH&S and Reserves. “It’s reflective of our commitment to continuous improvement and to conducting our business ethically and in a manner that is fiscally, environmentally and socially responsible, while delivering strong financial performance.”

The Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World is an annual project initiated by Corporate Knights, known as the magazine for clean capitalism. The list recognizes the corporations which have been most proactive in managing environmental, social and governance issues.
