Terry Hopwood

Executive Vice-President & General Counsel

Terry is responsible for the overall legal affairs of Encana and its subsidiaries, and overseeing the company's corporate compliance program.

With an extensive background in the legal profession, Terry joined Encana in 2011 as Executive Vice-President & General Counsel. Before he began at Encana, Terry was the Senior Vice-President and General Counsel for Suncor Energy. He has also held senior leadership roles as the Chairman and founder of Triple Crown Resources, a junior capital pool corporation listed on the Alberta Stock Exchange. Prior to that, Terry handled the legal and business dealings for D.M. Wolcott & Associates, a privately held diversified energy corporation, and served as Vice-President of Morgan Hydrocarbons Inc., a publicly traded entity. He was also a member of the law firm Bennett Jones for two years, with a specialized practice in the areas of corporate, commercial and securities law.

Terry attended Queen's University for his Bachelor of Arts degree and McGill University for his first year of law, then transferred to the University of Manitoba, where he received a Bachelor of Law degree.

In January 2002, Terry became a member of the Board of Directors for the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. He served as chair of the chamber during 2005. Terry has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre and has also served on the cabinet of the Calgary and Area United Way. Terry and his wife live in Calgary with their daughter Alix.
