The use of specific additives is an essential part of the hydraulic fracturing process.
Hydraulic fracturing fluids are designed to ensure that we can effectively fracture the target reservoir and recover natural gas. Fracturing fluids are composed mainly of sand and water; however, chemicals are often added to make a viscous, low-friction fluid that can carry the sand, (called proppant) and withstand the rigors of traveling to the producing formation and return to surface. Where we are unable to reuse the fluids that return to the surface, they are recycled or disposed of in government-approved disposal wells.
