Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) opens the oilsands conversation

EnCana has joined Canada’s oilsands producers and developers through CAPP to launch a joint initiative to engage Canadians in an open discussion about the environment and social impact of developing Canada's oilsands.

Public concern and debate around energy and environmental issues are taking on new urgency in 2008, as oil prices reach record highs and climate change heads the list of pressing environmental challenges. In this atmosphere, more attention is focused on the development of Canada’s massive oilsands resources than ever before.

A central component of this new conversation is a website, launched in June of 2008, with links to varied information about oilsands issues and a public discussion forum. Oilsands producers will use the website initially to hear from Canadians and to understand their views and concerns more fully. Over time, producers intend to engage with Canadians directly through the site, responding to issues and proposing available solutions.
