Stakeholder survey finds 5-to-1 favorability rating for Encana in company’s U.S. operating areas

Public opinion supports job and economic benefits of natural gas industry; Stakeholders looking to learn more about drilling and completion operations

Denver, Colorado (August 15, 2011) – A comprehensive stakeholder survey conducted this spring by Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., a subsidiary of Encana Corporation (TSX, NYSE: ECA), casts a favorable light on how the company operates in the U.S. locations where it produces natural gas.

Overall, three out of five adults surveyed trust the oil and natural gas industry and Encana is viewed favorably by a 5-to-1 ratio among adults who are aware of Encana’s operations. Encana’s commitment to excellence in safety and environmental performance were also viewed favorably, the survey found.

Working with an independent research organization, Encana commissioned the survey of approximately 2,400 community members, government leaders, landowners and other stakeholders across its operating areas in Colorado, Louisiana, Texas and Wyoming. Encana is sharing the results of the survey with the local communities where it operates.

“We’re dedicated to open and productive dialogue with members of the communities where we operate. We conduct stakeholder surveys periodically to gather a clear understanding of how community members view our operations and independent public opinion research is one of our most valuable listening tools. We truly appreciate the time local residents took to participate in the interviews. We consider this feedback extremely helpful and constructive as we work to improve our communication throughout the U.S.,” said Don McClure, Vice-President, Government & Stakeholder Relations & Legal, USA Division.

Encana was pleased to find that positive economic impacts and community investment efforts resonated with local residents. Results also showed that Encana’s communication methods are largely effective, and that Encana’s commitment to safety and environmental performance are appreciated. The survey also outlined areas where the company needs to do a better job, as residents are looking for more information on the impacts of its operations, how the company works to protect groundwater and more details on the hydraulic fracturing process.

Encana continually seeks opportunities to build relationships that generate positive change within its operating areas and this survey is one example. Encana encourages ongoing feedback as it continues to improve operational best practices. Members of the community are encouraged to call 1-866-896-6371 with comments and questions regarding Encana’s U.S. operations.
