New Steeprock Gas Plant in Northeast B.C.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. (October 3, 2006) - EnCana Corporation, along with Premier Gordon Campbell, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Richard Neufeld, MLA Blair Lekstrom and Kelly Lake Elder Dorothy Gauthier, held a ceremonial opening for the Steeprock Gas Plant near the community of Kelly Lake, B.C. today. The Steeprock Gas Plant is the largest gas processing plant to be built in British Columbia in the past decade and will enable EnCana to process the growing volumes of natural gas from its northeastern B.C. production areas.

"At EnCana we are committed to B.C., and are very proud of our significant investments in this province and the benefits they're creating for all British Columbians. The opening of the Steeprock Gas Plant represents a significant step in natural gas development in the province. The plant is adding value to B.C.'s resources as it enables B.C. gas to be processed right here in B.C.," said Mike Graham, EnCana's Executive Vice-President & President, Canadian Region.

The Steeprock Gas Plant has a design capacity of 198 million cubic feet of natural gas per day producing sales quality natural gas from EnCana's Cutbank Ridge resource play. At the peak of construction, close to 400 people were working at the site. In total, the Steeprock project is expected to generate 480 person years of direct and indirect employment during construction.

"EnCana's investment in the Steeprock Gas Plant is a direct result of the innovative policy environment created and implemented by the B.C. Government. These policies have created an economic climate conducive to the long-term investments required to develop B.C.'s natural gas resources," Graham said.

"The Steeprock gas plant has benefited from comprehensive B.C. programs that have encouraged investment, proving yet again that we have a plan, and that plan is working to bring jobs and prosperity to British Columbia," said Premier Campbell.

Today's event included a ceremonial inlet valve opening, in which Premier Campbell, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Branch Richard Neufeld, and MLA Blair Lekstrom participated. The event also included a blessing from Kelly Lake Elder Dorothy Gauthier. Over the last three years, EnCana's investment in B.C. has averaged $1.2 billion annually on upstream exploration and development activities. EnCana is proud to support B.C.'s local service sector. A significant portion of EnCana's investment in the Steeprock Gas Plant went to B.C.-based businesses, contractors and workers
