Thanks to a three-year commitment by Encana, Ronald McDonald House of Southern Alberta (RMHSA) was able to bring a new four-legged staff member to the team. The new Director of PAWSitive Relations, a Labradoodle named Asha, is providing unique support to families staying at the House during one of life’s most difficult times – a child’s illness.

Her name, which means “hope” in Hindi was selected by Ronald McDonald House families, staff and volunteers, from over 285 suggestions offered by Encana employees.

Living up to her name, Asha is providing something to families no doctor or treatment can provide – the feeling of comfort and home. During breaks between obedience classes, doggy day care and training sessions, she is bringing laughter to children and parents and a much-needed break from doctor appointments, medical treatments and the day-to-day care of a sick child.

RMHSA is the first Canadian House to acquire a therapy dog as part of its program.
