Innovation and community involvement converge

Staff from our U.S. operations volunteered with Groundwork Denver to gather information for a baseline watershed inventory of Bear Creek Park in southwest Denver.

Back

Innovation, teamwork, community involvement and environmental sustainability converged when staff from our USA Supply Management Contracts, Compliance & Reporting group undertook a community service project with Groundwork Denver.

The goal of the project was to gather information for a baseline watershed inventory of Bear Creek Park in southwest Denver. Under the guidance of Groundwater Denver staff, the team broke into groups and each surveyed about a two-mile segment of the creek.

Using maps, cameras and Encana-supplied GPS devices the teams systematically identified, mapped and photographed sources of pollution (e.g. trash, surface parking lots or certain industries) that might pollute the watershed in the territory. The information was sent to our Geographic Information Systems team in Calgary who prepared a map showing the location of all identified and potential watershed pollution sources.

Groundwork Denver will use our findings as a baseline watershed inventory and will add additional water quality details, ultimately developing a plan for cleaning up the Bear Creek watershed.
