Bighorn

Natural gas, northwest Alberta

In northwest Alberta, EnCana's Bighorn resource play covers approximately 630,000 net acres of land. Production from this deep basin play in 2006 was 97 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcf/d), up from an average of 64 MMcf/d in 2005. In 2007, Bighorn produced approximately 126 MMcf/d.

Bighorn produces from a deep basin Cretaceous reservoir. The average well is expected to recover between two billion and five billion cubic feet of gas, with initial production rates averaging two million to five million cubic feet per day.

In 2006 we expanded our processing capacity with construction of a new 30 MMcf/d plant at Kakwa and expansions at the Wild River and Resthaven plants and reduced completion costs by 30 percent.
