University of Wyoming — EnCana pledged $5 million to the University of Wyoming's (UW) School of Energy Resources (SER), adding to a prior $2 million gift to the university's petroleum engineering program. EnCana's combined donations mark the largest industry donation to UW to date, and are supplemented by other industry donations and state legislative support. Working with the University of Wyoming (UW), EnCana will continue to pursue our commitment to advancing:
One of the main purposes of the energy school is to provide an interdisciplinary environment for day-to-day interaction between chemical engineers, geophysicists, mathematicians, economists, petroleum engineers and others. |
| Tap Root Investigation Training – EnCana employees and contractors from Jonah Field, Wind River and Green River basins recently attended Tap Root Investigation Training in Rock Springs, Wyoming. This Tap Root training helps reduce incidents by teaching companies how to identify and address potential injury problems in a sustainable way. The success of the training illustrates that EnCana proactively engages employees and contractors to provide a safe work environment. |

Sagebrush habitat management project – In January, EnCana funded a project through the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of Wyoming for an integrated approach to wildlife and livestock habitat management within the Frenchie Draw Field in Fremont County, Wyoming. The project scope covers design and implementation of habitat enhancements and strategies. It is unique for its detailed survey and evaluation of wildlife and their habitats in conjunction with agricultural operations, with special emphasis on wildlife in the sagebrush community. Funded by our US$164,000 donation, the project is an extension of an agriculture and wildlife management project initiated in 2005 with private agricultural landowners in western Wyoming. |
| High school scholarships – EnCana encourages high school seniors pursuing post-secondary degrees in engineering, geology or geophysics at four-year universities to apply for its High School Scholarship Program. Recipients may also apply the scholarships at two-year colleges, including technical or trade schools related to the oil and gas industry. EnCana scholarships help high school students focus on their education and support the overall effort of developing Wyoming’s workforce. EnCana Scholarships—US$2,500 per year for up to four years—are awarded annually to one graduating student from each Wyoming school district where we operate, including Green River, Rock Springs, Farson-Eden, Big Piney, Pinedale, Riverton, Wind River, Arapahoe, Shoshoni and St. Stephens high schools. |
