Encana named to Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations

Encana has again been listed to Corporate Knights’ Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World – the fifth time Encana has been named in the ten year history of the Global 100. Encana was one of 13 Canadian companies and 10 energy producers to make the list, placing 76 overall.

Unveiled at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on January 22, the Global 100 is among a number of sustainability lists that Encana has appeared on over the past number of years. Inclusion in the Global 100 list is determined using 12 quantitative key performance indicators, including the amount of revenue generated per unit of energy consumption, the ratio of CEO to worker salary, the lost time injury rate and employee turnover.

“It’s critical that Encana keeps sustainability top-of-mind as we make the transition to a more balanced commodity portfolio and, ultimately, a more profitable company,” explains Dave Lye, who leads Encana’s Policy, Environment & Sustainability team. “Sound corporate governance and responsible development are integral in managing risk and creating shareholder value over the long term, and both principles will inform our approach to resource development in the future.”

The objective of the Global 100 list is to highlight corporations that have been the most proactive in managing environmental, social and governance issues. The Global 100 process begins each year on October 1, when data is collected on over 3500 companies. Companies then go through four screening processes; the companies that emerge constitute the Global 100 Shortlist. Companies in the shortlist are then scored using the 12 key performance indicators for their particular industry group. The top overall performers from each sector are named to the final Global 100 list.
